Tool Measurement

Tool Measurement

When a tool measurement is called for during a tool change or with the Measure Tool macro, a tool setter touch-off routine is performed. The spindle moves into position above the tool setter as defined in the Tool Setter Position section. From there it will probe toward the tool setter at the Seek Feed rate. Upon contact with the tool setter, it will perform a probe away from the tool setter at the Set Feed rate until contact with the tool setter is broken. The Z machine coordinate position is then recorded as the tool length offset in the tool table for the current tool and the offset is applied using G43 H[tool] where [tool] is the current tool number.

Toggles

Field Buttons Description
Enable/Disable
Enables or disables tool measurement. When disabled, the section collapses and tool measurement will not be performed during a tool change. The Measure Tool macro will not be generated. The Tool Setter Position section is also disabled. Disabled by default when a profile is first created.

When first getting started, it can be useful for Tool Measurement to remain disabled so that you can configure and test the tool change process itself first.
